Really Lovely Comedy is very excited to announce it will be producing two stand up comedy shows at the Edinburgh Fringe this year. Both venues are right off the Royal Mile, and we’d love to see you there.

Celebrating life’s small pleasures and petty victories and categorising its disappointments is this hour of fresh, irreverent stand-up comedy on the Five Pound Fringe. One of Spoonfed.co.uk’s 2010 acts to watch, James Acaster is a rapidly-rising, hugely likeable performer. ‘I could watch him forever’ (Josie Long). Radio 4 comic playwright Andrew Doyle’s cerebral bitchiness and ‘excellent one-liners’ (Times) have seen him support Scott Capurro at the Leicester Square Theatre. Whipsharp Ben Van der Velde is the mischievous compere of Really Lovely Comedy’s clubs where he ‘creates a buzz of excitement’ (Chortle.co.uk). Warning: show may not contain forward rolls.

Is the glass half full or half empty? The world contains joy, love and kittens but also war, pestilence and Piers Morgan. Which side prevails? Two men put forward their cases to determine the definitive answer. Jim Campbell is part of the award-winning team behind the ‘Football Ramble’ podcast and was a finalist in both ‘So You Think You’re Funny?’ and ‘Amused Moose’ new act competitions in 2009. Ben Van der Velde is resident MC for the Time Out Critics’ Choice Really Lovely Comedy Clubs. ‘Highly promising’ (Time Out London). ‘Whipsharp … an air of mischievous mayhem’ (Chortle.co.uk).

Really Lovely Comedy’s May Round Up!

May’s Really Lovely Comedy Tea Party.

We laughed at; Tony Law, John Luke Roberts, Daniel Simonsen, WitTank, Nish Kumar, Ben Van der Velde and James Acaster, who dropped in for a flying visit.
We ate; Vanilla and chocolate cupcakes, and for the indecisive vanilla cupcakes with chocolate icing.
We met; some lovely backpackers from Singapore who made Ben’s day by producing chewing gum midway through the second half, plus a delightful lady called Diane who came to see the show based mostly on Beth’s leopard print coat matching hers.
We listened to; Ella Fitzgerald, ROX, Louis Armstrong and Beth repeatedly fishing for compliments on her tea cup-shaped ring.
We loved; seeing so many returning guests, Tony Law discovering an imaginary tugboat behind the stage and our friends from Singapore spending their limited time in London with us.

We are taking a Tea (Party) Break over the summer due to the World Cup and Really Lovely’s upcoming Edinburgh Fringe adventures, but we will return on September 10th…

We laughed at; Pappy’s, Naz Osmanoglu, Andrew Bird, Grainne Maguire, Nathaniel Metcalfe, Matt Thomas and Ben Van der Velde
We ate; The Social’s pie and mash.
We met; Liam, who makes up stories about bees and Rachel, the world’s most enthusiastic and happy audience member. We had to give her the prize of sweets to calm her down a bit.
We listened to; Ellie Goulding, Sly and The Family Stone, Goldfrapp.
We loved; being joined by Anna who had been at Sunday’s Tea Party; Pappy’s brilliant Old Louie sketch; Andrew Bird dropping in unexpectedly to treat us to his set ahead of his Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow Showcase Audition
